The Lowcountry Housing and Economic Development Foundation was founded in 1997 as the Charleston County Housing Foundation under the leadership of a 9 member board of directors. The organization is a SC Dept. of Commerce certified Community Development Corporation (CDC), Community Designated Housing Organization (CHDO), and 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt organization. It is the mission of the foundation to "provide housing and economic development opportunities for the low to moderate-income families of Coastal South Carolina."

The Lowcountry Housing and Economic Development Foundation, Inc. (LHEDF) seeks to raise 1 million dollars in new money over the next 3 years for the specific purposes of

  • Housing Development

  • Education Programs

  • Homeownership Programs

The campaign will be segmented into two funds, The Endowment Fund and the Annual Fund. The Endowment Fund will support three areas: Education, Housing Development and Homeownership. Endowment Funds shall only be used for the stated purpose of the fund and are subject to any donor imposed restrictions. The Annual Fund will not be invested as an endowment but will be an ongoing fund to support the general operations of LHEDF.

PRESS RELEASE-Montez C. Martin, Jr. receives State Housing Award February 7, 2005- Montez C. Martin, Jr., was awarded the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority’s prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. It is the fifth such award presented in the agencies’ history. The honor was announced at the Agency’s annual Palmetto Affordable Housing Forum held at Columbia’s Metropolitan Convention Center. Seven awards were presented in six categories to celebrate innovation, best practices, and excellence in the affordable housing arena.

`PRESS RELEASE- SC Housing Trust Fund Award 2005 February 7, 2005- The Lowcountry Housing and Economic Development Foundation has been awarded a $219,000 grant to help 15 low to moderate income families obtain homewonership. The Board of Commissioners for the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority recently approved the award from the SC Trust Fund at their regular monthly meeting. These awards are for the acquisition, rehabilitation, and/or construction of housing for families earning at or below 80% of the area median income. The Foundation partnered with a local housing agency to idenitify and pre-qualify families for this new construction/ rehabilitation project. .
